fuel pump problems

Recommended Posts

Posted

have a 96 silverado vortec 5.7 and have went through 3 fuel pumps in the last 3 months.  Now I am on my 4th.  Tried both Carter and Delco and they only last for 4-6 weeks.  Am I missing something, what else can be causing this?  Or are they just faulty pumps and I have really bad luck.

Please help

How do you know it is the pump going bad?  Did you replace that little pulsator in the tank also? If not that can be the problem and it wont hold pressure and it'll take a while to get started or wont start at all.

Just a thought????

While fuel pumps are notorious on GM trucks for failure, especially the previous generation trucks, if you're going through one a month, that tells me something else is the problem.  Perhaps a short somewhere, an electrical surge somewhere that fries the electric soleniod motor.

Do you run it virtually dry on fuel often?  These pumps rely on the fuel cooling them.  Running them empty often leaves them exposed to air and therefore not being cooled, therefore shortening their life.
