Hello from New England:

A question about frame rust.

I very recently left a job at which I had the use of a company van and needed transportation quick. Found a one

owner '05 Silverado, 28000 miles, reg cab, short bed, 4wd, 6cyl MANUAL, but hey-the price was all I could afford-

10k-and is a very,very clean work truck.

I saw all the frame and support rust, not severe, but very, very, surprising for the year and miles; and even more

surprising are the numerous posts from other members with the same condition.

To be fair to GM, all other trucks I looked at showed the same problem, and neither Ford, Dodge, Nissan or Toyota

were any better or worse, so its fair to say that rusting is an industry wide problem.

I am hoping that there are some members who have either used Por15, Ziebart or Waxoyl and can let me know what the results

were and if they would do it again.

WELCOME to the site.

I live in an area where nothing ever rusts, so I can't give you a solid answer on the frame rust. Maybe some of our Northern members will chime in.

Hi there and welcome to GM Trucks! :jester:

Exterior rusting can be heavily dependent on ones location. For instance Jim lives in Texas and things don't really rust. Whereas if a person lives near the ocean where the weather can be cool and damp, rust can happen a lot more. Or if one lives where they get a lot of ice and snow and a lot of salt is used on the roads, rust will happen more often. My suggestion would be to have all the rust cleaned up and repaired, then have the truck undercoated to protect the frame and associated part. Then keeping the paint and exterior surfaces waxed and well maintain will help keep that rust away.
