Need Part Number

Recommended Posts

Okay...So I fell into a deal and picked up a factory GM hitch for Fred...I now need to go pick up some good bolts and the wiring harness.

Anybody know the part number for the harness? What I got has no wires, receptacle, nada. Just the big hunk-o-iron that comprises the hitch and frame mount.

I'm assuming it's just a plug and play deal too, anybody know about the install? This is my first truck that didn't have this installed when I bought it so I've never had to wire one in.

I think the number for just the rear harness for that hitch is gm part #15306164. I installed a complete hitch kit on my 99 and it was plug and play....

Try autozone, they got some universal hookups for 20 bucks or so...I got my 7/4 connector for 30 and it plugged right in.

Mike,

If you can wait until tomorrow I can get you all the numbers you need.

If you woulda' caught me a few months ago I could've given you a brand new harness I had sitting here at the dealership,We ordered a hitch package for a body shop job and all they needed was the actual hitch itself,They didn't need the harness.

I also can help you on the install,I've installed a few of these myself (Hell,I can probably do it with my eyes closed)

Its pretty simple (But not as simple as the '03-'07,On those all you have to do is plug in the receptacle)

It can be a little time consuming,so plan on a couple hours to do it.....You have to run the harness from the rear of the truck to the front of the truck,There are a few connections you have to make under the hood at the underhood electrical center,There are a few connections you also have to make at the rear of the truck using the factory harness thats tied-up above the spare tire.

The instructions are pretty easy to understand,so you shouldn't have any issues.

Maybe someone on here even has some pictures they can post.

Won't work on the '99-'02 GMT800 trucks without the factory trailering package.

Ah, I kept thinking he had a newer truck, I don't read signatures anymore haha...In any case if he knows anything about wiring it won't be too hard to splice into the tail lights. That or run wires all the way up to the fuse block...

Holy crap...That's WAY more work than I was wanting to do.

It's all good though...Give me something to do this winter when I'm bored.

Just found out today that my buddy has the same problem as me and just bought a hitch and no harness off of Craigslist...SO I get to do two.

The harness is part number 12495932 (This will even give you the 7-way electrical receptacle w/door that goes into the hitch itself)

For the bolts you'll need "4" of part number 11561075,"4" of part number 11517100,and "4" nuts, part number 11516382.

It is but......Its the "OE" production harness, and doesn't give you the 7-way electrical receptacle, splice sleeves,or any instructions.

The number I gave is the production "accessory" harness that gives you all you need for installation.

Damn, that's going to cost me $80 shipped to my door.

I may just do it my way.

Bolts I can pick up at my local fastener store for a helluva lot cheaper than the dealer charges.

Especially considering you can get higher grade bolts from other sources, too...

Yup. I got header bolts from the local place because the ones Kooks sent with my headers look like ass. I got 25 of them for like $12 compared to $30-$50 and up for them from speed shops.

Not that I'm worried about higher grade bolts, the factory ones are fine. It's a V6 with 3:42 gears, not like I'm going to be towing 10,000 lbs. anyway. More like 3,000 tops....Or just putting one of those racks on there to carry coolers and a grill or something like that.
