02 Silverado Won't Start

Here's the story:

02 Silverado, 5.3. 114,000 miles. Tried to start it, nothing at all. Lights on dash come on as usual, everything appears normal, headlights don't dim or anything. I worked the battery connections to assure good contact with no improvement. I swapped a couple of identical relays at underhood fuse box, one of which was the starter relay, thinking that this may have shot craps. No help.

I'm thinking starter. Tomorrow in daylight, I will attach a voltmeter to starter electrodes and turn key to see if I'm getting voltage to starter. If I am, almost has to be starter. If no voltage at that point...I have no clue. Maybe switch...?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

My guess is you are right and the starter is gone. I would first though check the charge on the battery just to be sure. If the starter checks out check the cables, they may be corroded internally. Good luck.

I have a feeling this is going to be a fun one...

I went back out right before bed..and it fired right up, as though nothing unusual had happened. I turned it off and tried again...back to nothing happening. SOB!!!

Man,I hate electrical problems....PITA.If all else fails you might take a look at the ignition switch.Had a prob once on a '77.Yours is newer but you never know.Wiggle the key a little bit, watch how it reacts at dffrerent points, try ACC. and then back to start...could be a loose contact.

Update: I went out after work...it started right up 3 times. Took the battery cables off, found some corrosion at the positive terminal...cleaned and tightened up (alot).

At this point I'll just wait and see if it returns...I hate that...fingers crossed. (Probably need to carry a comfortable pair of walking shoes...)
