guido1869 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 I need new tires and wondering which would be the better value for my 99 silvy z71 BF Goodrich A/T for $1,070 Dunlop A/T about $800 both are 285 75 r16
guido1869 Posted November 21, 2008 Author Posted November 21, 2008 or Uniroyal Liberator A/T for about $800
DofD Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 The BFG's are a really great tire. I would check out their reviews on Tire Rack so see what people say about them.
07BlueSierra Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 I need new tires and wondering which would be the better value for my 99 silvy z71 BF Goodrich A/T for $1,070 Dunlop A/T about $800 both are 285 75 r16 I would go for the BFG AT but not for $1070. That's a ridiculous price. I paid 898 for 285/70/17 RWL which are more expensive than the 16in tires
Zembonez Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 I love the BFGs. If money is not an issue, then I'd go for them. I hate Dunlop tires across the board. In fact their nickname in our shop is DunHOP. Don't think I ever saw one that would balance without a ton of weight... Might go look at the Kumho Road Venture AT. The reviews are great on them and you can get em for about $575 for four. KUMHO LINK
VMax2007 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 I need new tires and wondering which would be the better value for my 99 silvy z71 BF Goodrich A/T for $1,070 Dunlop A/T about $800 both are 285 75 r16 I put the BFG A/T KO's (same size you listed above) on my 2000 in 2003 and paid $160/tire for them at Sam's Club. That included mtg and lifetime balancing/rotations. When I sold my truck to my bro, they had about 50K miles on them and still had at least 1/3 tread life remaining. I rotated them about every 8K miles, which is VERY important to get goo dlife out of these tires. BFG's will be my next tire on this truck. The Nitto's are OK, but I like the BFG's better.
DofD Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Another popular tire around here is the Cooper Zeon.
Treasure Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I agree with all of the above...but FYI you have to check dates on Sams club bfg's some are old....manufactured a few years ago....the safety folks suggest that you should not run a tire past 6 years...so if its already 4 years old.....you only got 2 year to wear it out. Jeff
guido1869 Posted November 22, 2008 Author Posted November 22, 2008 Thanks for the advice. Time is an issue for me since one of the tires had a chunk of rubber torn out of it about the size of a golf ball and my spare looks like it may be dry rotted. The tre is still holding air so far but no telling how long. I was planning on saving for the next 3 to 4 months to buy some new rims and tires but oh well. I know the BFGs are priced high but I've already checked prices all around town and $209 (Sam's was $215) apeice is the best I can find. I need to change them tommorrow so that I can work so I may be forced to go to the dunlops since I can't come up with enough money for the BFGs on such short notice (paid off a $800 bill just yesterday). I did talk to several friends who ran Dunlops and loved them though. I did just check tirerack.com and the Dunlop scored a little higher on traction but lower on treadwear but I plan to keep them rotated very well (free lifetime balance and rotation). BFG scored higher in snow but I've only seen snow her twice in almost 30 years. Also Dunlop is rated for 60,000 miles and BFG 50,000. Guess now I can save for a paint job instead.
Zembonez Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Let us know how you like what you end up buying. That way we have a little more info when we go buy.
guido1869 Posted November 22, 2008 Author Posted November 22, 2008 What about Firestone Destination A/T Checked availability online and saw that I would have to wait 2 to 3 weeks for the Dunlops. The Firestones are in stock
Jje121 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 You should also look into a set of Dueler AT Revo's...

The Firestones are in stock I have experienced the Destination ATs on three vehicles. Love 'em. Great tire for the price. The only AT tire I've owned that I would put above it is the BFG AT. Go look at the Firestone AT reviews on tirerack.com You'll be amazed at how well they did.
