Gas Tank Filling Problems

Recommended Posts

I have a 2004 Blazer Xtreme, i've been having problems pumping gas. it will only let me get about 10 cents into the thing before it fills the hose and then shoots it back up and out. i did an expermiment and stuck a small long plastic tube down the hose and now it will let me get about 30 cents. so i know its some kind of venting problem but i'm not sure how to fix. i'm also getting an S.E.S code of 446 so i think it the evap canister. anyone know for sure or can lend any insight it would be very helpful

I had a Montana minivan for a while, and had the same problem. I could only trickle gas into the tank, and it was a real PITA. So I went to the service department and told them my problem, and they blew me off and said that it was unfix able. A letter to the dealership owner and GMC Canada helped them see it my way. At the bottom of the filler spout if a ball check valve fitted inside a cage, and if the cage is damaged during tank assembly, the check valve gets stuck and cannot allow fuel to flow properly. The gas tank has to be changed out to fix the problem, and that is exactly what the service department did. After the new tank was installed, the fuel flowed properly and the problem was fixed.

easy fix your vehicle has a breather tube (about 3/8" diameter hose) located on the gas tank that is most definately cloged up remove it and clean it out and you should be able to fill your tank up. Dirt from roads ect ect can collect in the tube over time
