Hi guys,

I come to you with my 96 G-KON in critical conditon. Heres the story:

Here in NY, we got a major ice and snow storm, I was driving back from my grandmother's house (had to remove several huge trees that fell). I was in 4WD, I entered 2WD and left her driveway. I got a good 40 feet down the road and the truck started sputtering. It sounded like I wasnt running on all 8 cylinders. My Service Engine light started to blink (which Is never a good sign). I had no been able to get to a gas station that day because the entire upstate was out of power. I was on E, which is rarely even an issue, though I understand its not OK for the fuel pump. My first thought when it was spittin n sputterin was I'm running out of fuel. I finally find a gas station and put 3 gallons in because I had parked my truck, because I didnt think I could make it sitting in line for 10 minutes, so I filled up my gas can and then put it in my truck, once I finally got a place in line at the pump (and yes I looked like an idiot standing in line without a vehicle at a gas station). I finally get home and I plug in my scanner. My Codes are as follows: p0700 (Transmission COntrol System), P0300 (Random Multiple Misfire), P1406 and P1192 (undefined with my scanner, one is an EGR code which I couldn't care less about).

Any ideas, guys? The truck starts right up and drives (though I won't be driving it anywheres running on less than 8 cylinders and/or misfiring). My one mechanic had said he wondered if I had fryed my computer. My brother used to be a Service manager with Chevrolet, and he recommended going to advance auto and buying coils + a distributor and taking it from there.

Thanks to everyone who read this and please help me save ye olde G-KON. She's been so good to me. =0(

Rob

When was the last time you did a complete tune on her, including new ditributor cap-rotor-wires. It could be you have some moisture under the cap too or just a bad connection. The thing that stinks about winter is actually being able to pull off the do-it-yourself thing without freezing your bagggets off.

That really sucks when problems like that pop up all of a sudden. I'd start with what your brother suggested and go from there.

Thanks for the reply Mike. The answer is Never. heh. Only real part I've actually replaced on this POS is the radiator, which blew up on me so that had to be done. I've had new plugs sittin in the box in my glove compartment for about 5 monthes now. I pay no attention to this truck (its just my toy hauler) and obviously now its kickin me right in the arse. Looks like I'll be going to the parts store for a dist cap, rotor + wires.

Thanks again,

Rob
