Hypertech Max Energy

I have a 2005 Silverado 1500 with a 5.3L. I recently purchased a Hypertech Max Energy programmer and was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to program it effectively. I am concerned more with fuel economy than power gains (though it would be nice to have both). If anyone has any ideas on programming to achieve either please let me know.

should have a setting called ecoonmy mode... my friend has that programmer and he hated it and returned it...he saw a drop in mpg...and he babied his truck

Yeah, so far I am not impressed at all. It doesn't have any preset "tunes", like and economy mode, or horsepower mode. It only allows me to adjust different aspects such as top speed, tire size, shift firmness, shift points, and rev limiter. That's why I can't really figure out how to program it to achieve different things. I definitely baby my truck as well, and have yet to notice anything but a loss of mileage. Also after it finishes programming my dash display reads "Reduced Engine Power", kind of seems like the opposite of what I hoped to achieve by buying a programmer.

The BEST way is to get to one of the tunes that Justin of Black Bear does.

If that is not possible, some people have had good luck with the Preditor.

Justin of Black Bear? So far the Hypertech is not satisfactory, and I don't recomend it. Is predator a different brand of programmer?

Justin tunes your truck in person.

He does a great job.

There are probably 40 or 50 guys on this board that he has tuned their trucks.

Heck, he even tuned my old Cadillac. :D:D

If you want to go the handheld route, I have heard less complaints and more good things about the Predator handheld than any other.
