2004 Malibu Suspension Noise

I have a 2004 new style Malibu with about 100K on it and the rear suspension makes a clunking or banging sound over bumps. Are these cars know to have this problem? I haven't crawled under the car as it is too cold and snowy out.

sounds like dead shocks/struts or maybe bushings
