MountaineerTom Posted October 5, 2001 Posted October 5, 2001 Man, this is happening too often. Blaise Alexander ran quite a bit in the Busch Series too.

I know what you mean, its strange how it doesn't seem to bother hardly anyone when these fatal accidents keep reoccuring.
General Lee 01 Posted October 7, 2001 Posted October 7, 2001 It shcked me when I heard about it. I watched part of the BGN broadcast today, and they mentioned he wasn't wearing a HANS or a Hutchens device. All I can say is this oughta be a wake-up call to Race Sanctioning bodies anywhere. Mandate Head restraints. This is happening way too often now. Something should be done. My Condolences to the Alexander family.
Guest Friz Posted October 7, 2001 Posted October 7, 2001 I wanted to let this cool for a couple of days before I put my $.02 in, but I am putting a lot of the blame on these recent deaths on the tires. Goodyear and Hossier work their butts off making a tire that is very fast and won't wear out too quick. A fast tire=a sticky tire. When a driver goes into a turn with a good grip, he can obviously go faster. When that tire finally breaks loose, it does so at a much higher speed and it's harder to get the car back before it's in trouble. If Goodyear, NASCAR, ARCA, and Hoosier got together and mandated one tire for all the races, it would be easier on everyone. Use a really hard compound, like the Talledega tire. Drivers will be forced to slow down entering the turns and they won't pick up speed as fast coming off the turns. The lower budget teams will be in closer competition because they won't have to worry about what setup will work this week with the new tire. They'll know the tire every week.
Kansas Kid Posted October 9, 2001 Posted October 9, 2001 I'm not sure if you can really place all the blame on the tires. Many years back there was a several modified drivers killed on the track at Martinsville, the slowest course on the circuit. I'm alot more concerned about the sudden stops these guys are making, not so much the speed. Thats about the only thing all these recent deaths have in common, are almost head on hits with very sudden stops.
quadrunner500 Posted October 10, 2001 Posted October 10, 2001 >If Goodyear, NASCAR, ARCA, and Hoosier got together and mandated one tire for all the races, it would be easier on everyone.< Friz, I know your heart's in the right place, but understand what the complaint with Goodyear is all about. Today, they only offer about 15 tires for ALL the races where they used to make 2 different tires for EACH race. What they have already done is more similar to what you advocate. Stewarts complaint about junk goodyear tires was not about so much that the tires aren't safe, or blow out, but they don't grip as well as he would like to suit his aggressive driving, for exactly the reason you stated.
