CHEVIN Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 so over the weekend a was pulling a inclosed 3 place snowmobile trailer with two sleds in it its not a big trailer at all. the truck pulled it fine i was in tow/haul but the trans temp got to 200 i thought that was a bit high so i called the dealer said it was a 200 they said thats a normal temp for pulling. but when i got out the truck it smelled like somthing was burning bad my question is what do these trans temp run at when pulling?? if i take it in the the dealer to have it looked at will they try to blame my lift and bigger tires?? i hurrd there might be recalls and TSB's on thishttp://www.edmunds.com/maintenance/recalltsb.do?step=tsb&year=2007&make=Chevrolet&model=Silverado+1500&style=LT1+4dr+Extended+Cab+4WD+8+ft.+LB+%285.3L+8cyl+4A%29&zip=90036&synpartner=edmunds#92
C & A s Dad Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 200 is not out of the norm when towing. I would say you smelled something other than trans fluid. Personally, I do not like to see trans temps over 200 but you are certainly not hurting anything at that temp. I believe GM has a warning light to come on at 250. Now that is too hot for me. I would suggest, if you do not have a aux cooler, add a good stacked plate cooler and you will see those temps drop significantly.
Alljackedup408 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 did you pull the dipstick for the trans and smell it? if you know what burned trans fluid smells like then you can identify. the only way you would be able to smell burnt tranny stuff outside the truck.. is if it was coming out of the vent tube... but by then the transmission fluid is VERY hot... not anywhere near 200.
silveradobobby Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 200 is good when towing, if you checked the fuild and its not that your smelling its probley just the cats getting hotter than normal cause of towing and burn off things.

Alljackedup408 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 servo makes your 2 - 4 shifts quicker.... the band that applies on the reverse input housing. it basically alows the band to engage quicker.. some do it and like it. ive heard others dont. its not that hard to do.. so.. if you wanted to do it.. you could try!

Nope havent got it yet still a few weeks away, but I think i'm going with the edge because it has alittle transmission support which is a big plus with a trans tech like me!
