Brakes Squealing, What To Try Next?

Recommended Posts

When I have my passenger side window open I can hear squealing when I put light pressure on the brakes and they are heated up. Pushing harder on the pedal makes the squeal go away. DS window open reveals very little noise so I figure pass side. I removed the front wheel the other day and found near new pads on the front. Figured maybe rear pads were just worn too far. Checked today and rear pads are 1/8" from wear indicator. Took the opportunity to grease up the rear pads to make sure they are not the problem. Rear rotor did look a little glazed, but not that bad as I've seen far worse.

Brakes are still squealing so I'm wondering what to check for next? Pads on the front have the anti squeal shims on them as far as I can tell. This is getting annoying and I don't want to start playing parts roulette.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like a typical glazed semi metallic pad making noise. It won't hurt anything but it is annoying. You can pull the pads and lightly sand the surface using a piece of 100 grit paper face up on a good flat surface. The noise will probably go away for a short time until the pads load up again.

I'd put a set of ceramic pads on and forget about it if it were me. Noise gone!
