CART's Fittipaldi to make qualifying attempt at Busch race

 

MIAMI (TICKER) - -- CART driver Christian Fittipaldi of Brazil will try to qualify for the season-ending NASCAR Busch series Miami 300 next month at Homestead-Miami Speedway, it was announced Monday.

 

Fittipaldi will participate in a testing session Tuesday at the 1 1/2-mile oval.

 

"This is very exciting for me and I hope to be well-received by those in NASCAR," the nephew of racing legend Emerson Fittipaldi said. "I have long admired their racing and welcome an opportunity to be a part of it."

 

Fittipaldi could join Miami's Mario Hernandez as the only Hispanic drivers to participate in a Busch series race. He also is trying to join an elite group of drivers who have raced on the CART, Formula One and NASCAR circuits.

 

"We are very happy to provide Christian with this opportunity," said George DeBidart of Innovative Motorsports, which is fielding Fittipaldi's Chevrolet Monte Carlo. "We welcome his talents and respect his desire to attempt to race in NASCAR. He is a pure racer, as we have seen, and we believe that this talent will translate to stock car racing."

 

The Miami 300 is set for November 10.

This could be interesting.

 

 

It's nice to know some of those guys don't think as badly of Nascar as most of those guys do.

 

But qualifying, and making the race are 2 different things.

I think Christian Fittipaldi will make a splash about as big as John Andretti did. Andretti to his credit, adapted well. I think it will be harder for Fittipaldi, used to the spoils and rich trappings of Newman Haas Racing.
