Wtf My Isuzu Rodeo Avreged 12.3mpg

i drove from riyadh" the capital "

 

to AL JUBAIL "OIL CITY OF THE EAST"

 

and i avreged about 12.7 mpg at 85 constant speed..i know thats not normal but this littel MF isnt nice on highways

 

the engine rpm was at 3000 rpm\85 miles

 

and i think it would avrege about 14 at 75 with 2550-2600rpm

 

there was side wind some times and used 91 octane

 

and we did better with a 2008 tahoe

 

13.8 mpg at 100mph shifting back and forth from 4th gear to 3rd gear wind aginst us with 95 octan

beleve me its almost the same and the BS about it

 

when ill program my truck...ill take a 91 octane tune not a 95 octane... 95 is 30% more expinseve than 91

 

back to the rodeo i just tryed somthing to clean the injectors and changed engine oil and i gained .75-1 mpg at the same speed but still to much

underpowered engine for the size/weight of the vehicle + fighting winds at 85mph, it's going to suck some gas. Your rpms's were very high at 85? Were you in 3rd instead of OD?

My truck would still only do around 22-2300 rpm at most at 85mph in 4th.

That's not too bad, I was on I-70 west today with a killer head wind @ 70 mph, the DIC floated around 15mpg.

that was on 4th....jap cars have high rpms on high ways althogh i can hit 120mph with 3rd.

That is a brisk speed for that rig. I am not real surprised by the fuel economy. If you got 18MPG at 65MPH that would be a gift. I had a 1989 Toyota RCSB that never ever got more than 19MPG at 60-70MPH and it was a four cylinder 5 speed with zero options and no air conditioning. I am sure you had the a/c cranked as it is warming up in this neck of the woods, ahhh I mean desert.

Might be your gearing? My 06 2500hd had 4.10 gears and would be pushing 3k RPMs around 80. My 1500 has 3.73s and only hits about 2300 RPMs at the same speed I think. I stay around 70-75 or whatever the speedlimit is.
