Differences In Nnbs Computers

I have an 08 5.3 ext cab 4wd. I want to buy another ecu that I can send out to get tuned. I want to do tune a spare because I want to be able to keep the ecu that came with the truck so that I can install it when I need to take it in for service/warranty work.

What ecus can I use? 07 thru 09? Any other specifics I need to worry about? gotta be a 5.3? I have the 5.3 with active fuel management, do I need to find an ecu with that aswell?

You will need both an ECM and a TCM, assuming you want a tranny tune too (which, IMO, is the most important part). The GMT900's use an E38 ECM, so yes, they are all the same, but you will need to have a stock tune, based on your VIN, installed first so you can do a Security Relearn. Otherwise the truck will not start.

As stated above, if you are going with BB, Justin can set you up with the modules.

No there not all the same,Example...The one in an '07 is part number 12597121,The one in an '08 is part number 12612384.

Ok, but are they interchangeable?

I wouldn't think so,The numbers don't change into one another.

I woudn't try to interchange them,Justin might know if they could be though.

Well, I know one of my TCM's (the first one I got from Justin, that I later exchanged when he tweaked my tune) was from an HHR and had a different part # than mine had. I have also seen E38 ECM's on ebay with multiple part numbers that all claimed to work in the GMT900 trucks. So, I am pretty sure all E38 ECM's are compatible as long as they have the proper stock tune loaded in.

Some but not all are interchangeable. Depends on the OS more so than anything, but Justin reflashes the computer for your VIN, year, make and model.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I wasnt aware I would need two modules. I am actually much more concerned about the tranny tune than anything so I would definately need to do both. Ill look into pricing from blackbear to get them. If its reasonable Ill get it from them.
