2009 Silverado Trailer Brake

Hi guys,

 

I found a pretty nifty 2009 Silverado Z-71 crew cab/short bed K1500 on GMBuyPower. It is Victory Red with Graphite leather and is just what I'd like, other than it does not have the factory trailer brake.

 

Does anyone know if the dealers can retrofit the factory trailer brake to an already existing new truck?

Nope,This has been discussed before....Too many things need to be added that can't be added easily after the fact.

My current truck, a 2006 Duramax, has a Tokansha Prodigy trailer brake which I added but have never used. Actually, the rig has a whopping 5,200 miles on it and I find myself lusting for a smaller, probably half-ton, but equally well-dressed rig.

 

Victory Red is incredibly hard to find locally, plus I want Graphite leather and an LTZ. Considering that most local dealerships are almost broke, my quest may be a difficult one.

Yeah, and it's an incredible rig. My 67 year old body finds the extra two inch step-in height to be a painful thing.

 

Darned shame about the 2009; it has the 6.2 liter engine, which I really wanted. Oh well, I'll either forget it or put it on hold until one shows up within easy driving distance.

 

By the way, the local dealerships (Portland, Oregon) are really in sad shape. How far apart can you park the new rigs until it appears that you are really out of stock??? We live about a mile from a major Chevy dealer and most of their stock is eight and nine months old and they are parked like twenty feet apart. Where there were hundreds of rigs in past years, now there are maybe fifty.

Yeah...We have a bunch of new ones on our lot so were lucky,But with the plant shut-downs and the closure of dealerships coming up its gonna get worse.

Steve, have you given any thought to adding an aftermarket brake controller? I mean, if the truck is that close to what you're looking for maybe the addition of an aftermarket wouldn't be so bad? Just an idea.

 

Beautiful Duramax by the way. Those things are animals when it comes to towing!

A Tekonsha Prodigy or P3, while not quite as clean an install as the integrated controller, is going to be a vastly superior piece of technology IMO. I had a Prodigy in my 01 and I liked it so much when I traded that truck in on my 08, sold it and got a P3. Both of them are excellent brake controllers and I never regretted not having the GM.
