Cluster Problems

Hay there everyone, I have been checking out some other problems about this asking some help. when i am driving around around 80km/h my dash will die, and then the tranny sound like it goes down to another gear. all the gagdes go out except the oil pressure, then all of a sudden (smooth highway too no bumps) comes back on, and the tranny shifts really hard. could this be a computer problem, or this cracked circit board people are talking about. this has happened before but that was like 2 years ago and have not had it happen again intil last week. the truck is a 00 chev silverado 2500 with the 6.0L.

What I would do if I had this problem would be to look at a factory electrical diagram and see if the transmission or anything electronic which controls the transmission gets any of its signals from the instrument cluster.

Or if there was some other common electronic module which controls both.

Then I would examine the wiring to these things as well as the connectors.

Possibly take a few things apart to check the insides for dirt, loose solder connections, etc.

Then monitor the power to any electronic device which could cause this problem. I would do that with a multimeter.

Other than the above testing to find the problem, some people just "guess" and start replacing parts or take it to a dealer for service.

There is a recall for the cluster instrument panel that GM will replace, proviced you are under 80,000 miles..If you are over 80,000, you just have to pay for labor (Which takes about an hour or less). I had mine replaced, but for different reasons. It was making a loud ratteling noise, something to do with a peice coming loose. Perhaps getting a new cluster panel, and GM doing the reprogram, might be the cure for your problem.
