Crank Position Sensor Grrrr!

I need to replace my CPS on my 01 2500HD 8.1/Alley. Should i even attempt this or go to the dealer? Motor has 140,000 miles on it. Anyone know what the dealer would charge? Ive heard this being an ok job and ive heard of some horror stories with the crank sensor. Tell me what i should do!! Thanks

There is a recall on the 2001 trucks for the crank sensor. Check with the dealer.

 

I just had mine done (2002 8.1), tried for about a week to get the old one out - couldn't do it.

 

I bought the sensor for about $80 the dealer charged me $245.00 for the change out - money well spent...

What is a charachteristic of this part going out (crank sensor) as once or twice in past month my truck has hesitated on starting, similiar to auto. shifter being in reverse ger upon trying to start truck....few moments later...starts fine

The biggest symptom is random stalling while driving. I would pull over, wait about 10 to 20 min and re-start. Was more frequent during hot weather.
