Front Axle Rebuild Kit?

I have a 1999 Silverado 1500 nbs. When I drive highway speeds I feel a vibration from under the floorboards. I had recently changed the outer axle seal and bearing on the drivers side and after 1000 miles there is a bunch of play in the axle shaft (up and down) again. Just for the record I am a mechanic and have rebuilt many ford/dana axles, this is the first gm axle I have worked on though.

Anyways, I am pretty sure the diff bearings are shot because there was a lot of metal shavings in there and in 4wd or auto 4wd it makes a lot of noise down there.

Does anyone know if there is a rebuild kit I can get with diff bearings, shims, seals, and shaft pilot bearings? I caqnt seem to find any kits. Any help would be great. Thank you.

I forgot to also ask, is this an 8.25 or 9.25 diff in the nbs 1999? Did GM use the same axles in these trucks since 88? Thank you and sorry for all the questions I just dont have to work on GM's very often.

You don't have to replace the ring and pinion. You need side adjusters-2,carrier bearings-2,one pinion bearing, axle seals-2,diff fluid-2, and a large tube of a special sealer, red, 1 tube - available at the GM parts counter.

The metal you found is the side carrier bearings are coming apart, leaving metal thru the fluid.

Get a couple cans of brake clean-about 3- and you can have this rebuilt in a few hours.

I've done about a dozen myself...
