96 Gmc Sierra Engine Light

i am new to this forum and the pick up world, any ways i bought a 96 gmc sierra 1500 with a 5.0l v8 the truck passed its emissions test but the enigne light comes on tried the gas cap nothing.the shop also fix the throttle linkage or something along that.I don't think its the o2 because it passed the emissinos test with flying colours any help.

In my county, they only test vehicles with obdII systems (96 and newer) by attaching a scanner to the diagnostic port. Assuming they do the same by you, they wouldn't have let that vehicle pass if the light was a result of an emissions deficiency. Do you know exactly what the code is that threw the light in the first place?

 

If not, that should be your first course of action. Even if the garage doesn't tell you exactly what the problem is, just gives you a code number, you can usually google it and there'll be a plethora of information on the subject.

the light was not on at time of test, they also did a oil change is it possible they foregot to reset something it was fine when it went in
