Electronic Transfer Case Shifting

I have a 2003 Sierra Z71 with electronic shifting of the transfer case. My problem is that when the vehicle is started the transfer case will frequently start in any of the positions rather than the last one used. I have to put the truck in nuetral and push the buttons until it shifts into the right position. I have replaced the switch in the dash $186 and no improvement. Is there another module that controls this function?
