No Software Updates - Old Build
DaleB replied to DaleB's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Thanks, all. It sounds like keeping the software "as is" is the best course of action. -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overengineering Excerpt from the above link: (BTW the above is a 90 second read) [Quote] A story about very precise engineering is given in the 1858 story The Deacon's Masterpiece or, the Wonderful "One-hoss Shay": A Logical Story by Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr., which tells of a carriage (one-horse shay) Because it had been engineered so that no single piece failed first – no piece was over-engineered relative to the others, and they thus all collapsed at the same time. A similar quote by Ferdinand Porsche claimed "the perfect race car crosses the finish line in first place and immediately falls into pieces."[5] [End Quote} By Engineering's own definition then; the AFM and Torque Converters, 4-5-6 clutch assembly of the 6L80E, and a dozen other common chronic parts and systems failures are "UNDER ENGINEERED". And by their own definition done so with INTENT. Ya can't have it both ways OEM's.

I was in Utah this week attempting a bow hunt in the Wasatch mountains with friends. On the evening of the first hunt, making my way across a ridge to a friends camp, the upper control arm on the driver's side separated, the CV axle got trashed, and the wheel was dang near at a 45 degree angle to the ground. I was able to get it towed off the mountain and into town about 3:00 am, and spent the remainder of the night in an O'Reilly's parking lot. Luckily, there was a Chevrolet dealership not to far away so I was able to get to the dealership and pick up a new CV and UCA. It would have been a few days before they could have gotten to the truck and I brought tools with me on hunt since it was a two day drive to get there, so I did the repairs myself in the O'Reilly's parking lot. What's interesting is that the UCA ball joint didn't break, it just popped out of the bottom of the UCA. There was VERY LITTLE evidence of grease on the ball joint or in the socket, and you could see where the ball joint had warbled out part of the socket over time. I guess that's what happens over 186K miles of use :) Big Kudos to O'Reilly's for letting me work on the truck in their parking lot. However, they made a $150+ off of me from the purchase of various tools, so I guess it was in their best interest anyways :) Getting towed off the mountain. UCA Ball Joint Socket Trashed CV Suspension disconnected and UCA and CV Removed New UCA and CV installed with the suspension buttoned up.

What did you do to your "other" car (aka musclecar) today

My family still laughs at me when they see me drive up in the minivan. Same with less than a V-8 truck. It helps that I have choices. I don’t think I could only have a minivan as the one and only vehicle as much as I like it. And I wouldn’t pass up a good buy on an older V-8 reg cab GM truck. Could you live Raven as the only ride? -
Oil and filter threads are always a good time. Especially when the BITOG discussion forums are cited as a definitive, technical source. Countless single-data-point examples of why something is the best ever, or will destroy your engine... "they changed the shade of blue on the filter can, use at your own risk!"... "I've heard they changed the design to only have 64 pleats, total junk!"... "They're hidin' the NOACK data from us! I wouldn't use that stuff in a cement kiln!".... "There was a guy who cut open Filter X (with a sawzall) and the anti-drainback valve was orange! It used to be black! Chinese junk!" Good stuff.

I finally bit the bullet and installed a set of Bilstein 5100's on my 2024 Silverado 2500HD. My truck had about 75,000 miles and I've always felt the factory shocks were less than forgiving. So Bilstein 5100's are the most common go-to replacements. I personally have installed them on many trucks....2002 Silverado 1500, 2014 Silverado 1500, 2017 Chevy Colorado, 2019 GMC Canyon, 2022 Silverado 1500...now my 2024 Silverado 2500. I will eventually put them on my 2021 GMC Yukon as well. Great all around shocks. Below is my video tutorial installing them on my 2500. As a bonus, for recently hitting 20,000 subscribers on my YouTube channel, I teamed up with Nick Scovel Jr at Scovel Motorsports to create a giveaway. Details are in the video description. What did you do to your "other" car (aka musclecar) today

Raven About 2 more weeks and this Mirage will be two years old and already packing 54K miles. The CVT has settled in and is outperforming my expectations. The engine in quite, smoot for a three pot and very economical to fuel. Life time result to date is a stunning 52.44 mpg with a median tank of 52.74 mpg. Given the number of miles I drive and the cost of fuel lately this buy has turned out to be quite the winner in this stable. She is also quite the teacher. Nice thing about a car that gets this type of milage is that you see the results of minor changes with the change instead of having to average a months worth of gas tickets to filter out the tank to tank scatter. Those lesson apply to everything in the fleet and everything I've done to the pack works with this one as well. EPA numbers for this car: This example is running 42% over the government values!!!! I am really enjoying this car. Can't even hear the laughing of those that thought this a 'dumb/disappointing buy". -

Not so worried about folding or memory, but if that is the case I feel very dumb for not noticing that they connect to each other, so what you’re saying is the light in the back of the mirror will only light up when I unlock it? Or will it work with blinker too

Aftermarket mirror doesn’t support power fold or memory functions. So key fob fold won’t work either. The two smaller connectors looks like they were disconnected. If you plug those two together, the blinker on the glass should work. Amber light on the tow mirror will likely come on as a your old puddle lamp (so when you unlock at night - it’ll turn on).

what are the tow mirrors off?
-
First time poster here, recently bought some tow mirrors off of my buddy and installed them on my 2014 Silverado 1500 ltz, my stock mirrors have the light in the lenses for your blinker with heat, power adjust, memory, and power fold. I noticed the mirrors I got have 3 total connectors but my stock mirrors only have 1. I plug the new mirrors in and the only function I have is the power adjust. No lights no fold nothing. I’m guessing I need to wire something or repin the connector, any info out there on how to do so? The pictures attached include a picture of my oem connector with only 1 connector, and the aftermarket ones with 3 connectors. I apologize if I post this in the wrong section

Some Assembly is Required
OnTheReel replied to Grumpy Bear's topic in Maintenance, Oils/Fluids, Detailing & Rust Prevention
Yeah, cartridge filter on this one. I actually ran R&P when I first bought it and didn’t see anything in it. But it was a fairly short run so we’ll see. Of course! -

Do not assume any updates apply to your vehicle. Maybe the best thing to do is, leave well enough alone. I was at the Cadillac dealer once for a system software update fix (not a recall) for a known issue with fuel gauge inaccuracy in some CTS+4. Supposed to take 30 min. but as I was talking to a person in the showroom I spotted them pushing my car outside. Just about then the SM came over and said, while we were running the update the cpu froze up and we have to get a new CPU. I'm getting you a loaner, we hope to have a new one over night and I 'll have them bring the car to you when its ready. Came in at 9am Thursday, left with a 4 yr. year old DTS and got my car back late Friday, good as new. I was under the 3yr B>B warranty. Imagine the cost if not covered by warranty?

Interesting information, thanks! I bought the ADC camera and it helped a bit but not dramatically so,

Camera source shipping to Canada
mikeyk101 replied to gdtaper's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Just an interesting but boring piece of info. The camera being sold by ADC is the exact same camera sold by Camera Source. It even uses the same part number except Camera Source adds a CS- on the front. There were discussions a long time ago and I can't recall whether ADC is selling Camera Source cameras or Camera Source is selling ADC cameras. https://www.camerasource.com/products/2016-2018-sierra-silverado-hd-replacement-camera-cs-gmtrmod-16?variant=47619180101891&_pos=40&_fid=63889b968&_ss=c -
Sounds to me like normal fuel injectors firing off. Mine has been the same for over 5 years.

For the transmission I just went with the TSB. Chevrolet TSB 21-NA-199.pdf

Have you tried this option? ADC rear camera upgrade

No Software Updates - Old Build
davester replied to DaleB's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Yes, GM's recommendation is to not flash updates for anything, unless the vehicle has a problem that the update is listed as fixing (this is for any module, not just the infotainment system). -
I went with Borla Touring cat back exhaust. I thought about the ATAK but figured my neighbors might prefer a bit more quiet.

What have you done to your K2 today?
MikeBMW replied to block8head's topic in Modifications & Accessories
The Amp power steps are great! I've had them installed for quite some time. I do, however, have to replace the cushioned bump stops so I don't get a metal clunk when they deploy.
