Bye Bye, Bose

Well, I didn't get the amp relocated to the back wall yet, but I did get the new speakers in. I am very pleased with the results! As I suspected, I am wanting a new Nav Head Unit, now!

Here is the rear door Bose, and the rear door speaker adapters I got for the 6.5 Infinity Kappas:

Here is a Kappa for the rear door mounted in the speaker adapter. These adapters are frickin' slick!

Kappa mounted in rear door, again the adapters work great:

Here is a Bose front compared to the JBL I bought for the front, wow, look at the magnets:

Resonant Engineering 10" Sub, this thing is awesome...custom enclosure fits perfect under r/r seat, I put a little poly-fill in it, and it pounds just great. Cant wait to get that Alpine amp off the floor and on to the back wall.

Got the crossovers mounted out of the way of the windows...after I rolled them down and re-mounted the damn things

100% improvement...Sound is great. My Alpine Nav HU will be next, I sure wish I could find one with 2 slots to run a DVD on the rear screen and a CD up front like I have now.

SuhWEET. I wish I had the wiring skills/money to put a nice HU, some good quality speakers, and a small sub in my truck. Being a musician, the audio in my truck makes me want to cry.:confused:

What model of alpine amp did you use? Also is that sub a shallow mount?

It is a V Power MRP 450 Mono Amp, 450 Watt @ 2 ohm, single channel

The Mounting Depth on the RE Sub is 5.25", It BARELY fits in that enclosure.

wht98yukon: I love the RE, it is 300RMS/600 Peak

too bad you couldn't make a video or something to show how nice it is...

nice install i bet it made it sound WAY better...

did you build that enclosure yourself?

its really not hard... im sure if you can figure out how to put in a new grill or do bodywork you can figure out how to run a couple wires... i thought it was hard too but its actually pretty easy.. i just don't know a lot about different subs or amps but the install is very easy..

damn i need to learn or figure out or get walked through on how to uninstall audio (sub, 4 speakers and amp) from one car and put it into a silverado

ps nice job

I'll take anything apart, and 99% of the time, I can put it back together (right now, my dash is in pieces :dunno:), but running my own wires just scares the crap out of me.:confused:

If you want bare bones basic installation instructions that aren't vehicle specific, go to crutchfield and look at some of their learning guides. Or you can do like me and spend a couple hundred hours trying to figure out what to get and how to best install it...

It honestly isn't that hard though. If I can do it,anyone with some common sense can. Heck if Alaska can do it, ANYONE can.

If you do enough research online about the wiring of your truck you can easily figure it out. With your 2000 model you would be able to buy a harness that would connect from your factory wire harness to your new head unit and then just snap the new head unit in. There would be no cutting wires. If you wanted to add new speakers just pull the old ones out and use the existing factory wires for the new ones. Want to add an amplifier? It needs four wires:

1. Wire directly from the battery (with an inline fuse).

2. Ground wire that you just drill into the body of the truck and attach it to.

3. RCA wire which literally plugs into the back of your new headunit and then you run it to the amp.

4. Your "remote" wire - the hardest of them all. This is the wire that tells the amp to come on when you turn the truck on and turn off when you turn it off. You have to find a wire in the truck that is powered when the truck comes on and only when the truck comes on. I bet if you bought that wire harness kit that I referenced above it would tell you which wire to attach it to. It would be somewhere in the same area as where the headunit would go.

I was the same as you - wiring makes me nervous but I just did it and it has worked for almost seven years with no problems! Ever!

I thought the heating system did that. :dunno:

And IIRC, some headunits have a place specifically for the remote wire.
