2006 Silverado Starting Issues.

My 06 Silverado is acting up, just before Christmas, I went out one morning to warm my truck up. I turn the key to on, all the lights come on, turn it to start, nothing... lights go out and no cranking. If I try it 4 or 5 times it usually starts. I checked the battery connections that night, thought it was like the old 2 positive cable trick, where everything in the truck would work but not start due to the starter cable not making a connection. Not the case on this one.

So it's happen 6 or 7 times now, but I have always been in the truck with the door closed.

So this morning I went out and tried to start the truck, opened the door and reached in, turned it to on... didn't hear the fuel pump, turned it to start, nothing. Tried it a few times off to on, off to on, off to on... fuel pump started, turned to start... it started!!! Now... where is the problem?? Because it's starting to give me that "I'm not going to start one day while way the hell up north" feeling.

Thanks

One last thing, it's booked in for Monday, the advisor seems to think it's a ground issue. Anyone ever see this before?

do not assume that advisors know anything, they don't,the r.o comments/corrections are from the tech ,not the front end staff ,gl .

Not sure yet.

But get this one, I'm thinking it is the security. As this morning I turned it to on, all the lights went on but no start, then the security light started to go dim with the key in the on position... tried it, truck started! Interesting.

Glad this one is covered, just dumped 600.00 into my wifes Grand Am for a passlock issue! Damned security!

Just a thought, are you giving the shop the same key when you drop it off for service? I am wondering if you have a problem with the chip in the key knocking out the start portion.

I have also found out (on a Ford Taurus with the chipped key) that sometimes additional keys or even other chipped keys can cause problems with the anti-theft.

Just my 2 cents.

Look at the battery installed, if it has a black ac delco label on it pull off the positive battery cable and check to see if it leaking acid, there might be a chance when you unscrew it the positive battery post will come off. If it is leaking at the post or the post comes off then that is your problem. The black label ac delco batteries are a peice of crap and will cause things like this to happen.

If the battery is ok then the ignition switch would be the next possible problem
