I have a 2004 silverado with xm, onstare, and bose. I want to get a little more base out of the truck. I have two subs and am amp out of my old truck I'd like to put in it. I have done some research on it and people say the best place to tape into the speaker wire is in the center console. Here are my questions. I want to use the stock cd player so that will require me to use a line out converter. Where do i take the console apart to access the wires and which color wires am i looking for? The next big question is when i find the speaker wires, do I tap into them before the stock amp or after the amp? On my old truck I just taped into the speakers wires on the drivers side door channel and it worked. Non bose. So i was thinking probably before the amp but I have also read it will not work if i do that. Any help would be great here...Thanks again

Nah... you didn't do anything wrong... I'm just being a smart-ass as usual. I do know that a lot of folks have done small subs in here. maybe we can get one to step up and tell us about it.

I too wanted to keep my factory cd player w/ XM. I also have Bose and just wanted to add more bass to it (until I upgrade the whole system next year). Here's how I did mine...

I removed the center console "box" & center cupholder tray.

Just grab the tray and pull up on it (remember to remove all loose change from it or it will go flying - yes I forgot to do this step).

[You do not have to remove the console, but I did so I could get a better idea where the wires where coming out from behind the amp] Open the lid to your center console, remove the 4-or-so screws holding on the lid, remove the screws on the perimeter of the center console "box", then remove the 4 screws at the very bottom (underneath the rubber mat). The box should come out after that.

The wires you want to tap in are between the amp & sub. The wires run along the passenger side of the console, look for the blue/white (Left +) and green/black (Left -) wires twisted together.

When I first did this, I tapped into the wires before the amp. The subs were not loud at all. I then switched the wires as I described above, and it was much much louder.

Hope that helps, let me know if you have any more questions.

awesome help! The wires you mentioned. Do they go to the back speakers or to the front speakers? Also I'm tapping into 4 wire right? I wasnt sure if you ment blue with a white stripe. Also when you say I need to remove the box, do you just mean whats under the lid near the armrest? Or just where the cupholders are? Thanks for the help.

I'm no audio expert, i'm looking into upgrading my system as well. Just wanted to mention that when i was talking to some people about upgrading. They mentioned that its hard to upgrade with using the stock Head Unit because the bose system has messed up eq's that as you turn up the volume it turns down the bass so it doesn't sound distorted. JL makes something called cleansweep that will give you regular Eqs for your stock deck however its just as expensive as after market deck if not more. I believe alpine also makes something similar. Just something to keep in mind. Maybe it won't be a problem and hopefully it sounds great good luck getting it all wired in.

The wires go to the Bose Sub underneath the center console. You are just tapping into 2 wires, should be a Blue w/ White stripe & Green w/ Black stripe.

When I refer to the "box", I mean what's under the lid. You can remove that along with the cupholders, or just the cupholders (I removed both for visual purposes).

I don't notice decreased volume, it actually does get louder since I have my Auto Volume set to High.

I have a DX700 Kicker powering my 2 L7's, it doesn't get quieter as I turn it up, plus I have a control knob for the amp. Gotta love mirror-shaking bass (w/ only 8's :D ).

I've read great review's about the CleanSweep and others, they would work nicely if you want control over the stock eq.

In the future I'll be adding new Alpine front & rear speakers with a new Alpine amp, since I want to keep my stock HU I'll be adding my Kenwood KGC-9044 EQ.

How come I'm not using four wires? I thought to went into one rca plug and the other two went into another rca plug? Do i have the wronge loc? Thanks for all the help

What LOC do you have? On your LOC, twist both the Negatives together and twist both the positives together.
