Recommended Posts

i have an 04 silverado z71 and would like to lift it 3 inches, i have the torisen bars cranked to the max already so it sits level, my buddy said he could make me lift blocks at work and all we would have to get is new u bolts and shocks but my question now is, how do i keep the front level ? any help on how to get 3 inches higher for cheap would be appreciated, thanks

Body lift is the only way, unless you want to spend a grand on a 3" suspension lift.

Body lifts usually run under $300, and can be installed in a weekend by a couple of guys with some mechanical ability.

EDIT: If you do get lift blocks, I'd just buy them from a reputable company, they're pretty cheap, and you'd know they'll be safe.

You could put new keys in the torsion bars. Not that this is a fail safe method of lifting. And I agree that lift blocks are not that epensive to warrant making your own. Keep in mind adding a taller lift block will increase axle wrap and over cranking the torsion bars can have adversly affet ride quality and the supposed longevity of front end components.

I definitely wouldn't put re-indexed torsion keys on, all they do is let you crank further, and if you crank them up all the way it will REALLY wreak havoc on your front end.

Andy, didn't you have a BL on your GMT800?

It would be way too much crank. The highest you can crank without causing any significant stress on the front end is about 1.5", and if you're already cranked to level, you're over that.

i seen on skyjackers website a pair of spacers that look like they go in the shock assembly somewhere and the say they give the front a 2 inch lift, if i was to get these and put the 2 inch blocks in, do you think it would still sit level? or is the 2 inch they are talking about before someone has already cranked the t-bars up

The spacers are probably for either a 2wd truck, or the GMT900 trucks which have struts instead of torsion bars. There is no way to lift the front end other than cranking the torsion bars which, as mentioned above, is really easy to go too far with, or getting a true suspension lift, which will run at least a grand.

ok, well i think im just gonna end up saving a lil money and buying a suspension lift, 3 inch, what do guys recommend as far as that goes ?

Of course I'm going to say BDS!!!

I think FabTech and SkyJacker make nice lifts also, do some research and remember you get what you pay for so if you try to save a buck or two it may bite you in the end. I learned the hard way by trying to go cheap and install a Rough Country 3" suspension lift that turned out to be a POS so I had to remove it and still end up spending the big money on the BDS kit. in the end I did the work twice but it was worth it cause boy do I love my BIG DICK SUSPENSION!!!
