  1. Disconnecting the battery negative cable for 30 seconds would be my first step to see if it comes back. My truck set a code twice that was a lost communication with the transmission. Don't remember the number. The first time it went away the next day. The second time, about a year later I cleared the code with a cheap program I run on a lap top. Then I disconnected wiring harness connectors and reconnected them for the transmission. The truck was not running and the key was off. It hasn't returned in 2 years. I wouldn't panic unless it's having problems. Easy to re-connect the harness connectors like I did to help with a quirky connection. IMO with the computers today a slight voltage drop can cause a code.
  2. Stop going or dent the wallet, simple.
  3. Thanks Grumpy. I was just wondering because I have used major brand oils always and Fram oil filters for years. Started using fleet oil filters about 10 years ago. I have used dino oil until I bought my 2012 Sierra in Nov. of 2015. Then I started using synthetic blends(Quaker State) in this truck to meet OEM spec. I switched the Honda over to synthetic blend also. As I said I won't buy expensive oil or filters. I will be switching the truck and the Accord over to full synthetic (Castrol Magnatec) soon.
  4. Were you using Red Line oil in all these vehicles? Just thinking that may have been the difference due to the low NOAK of that oil.
  5. Agree. People I know have vehicles that don`t use oil.
  6. Being I buy used vehicles I have never had one that didn't burn some oil. Maybe due to previous treatment. My 2012 Sierra, no AFM activated (64 k miles) is using a little oil and so is the wife's Accord with 100 k miles. My 93 Silverado (230+ k miles) used oil depending on how it was treated. Burned the most when towing of course but still nothing compared to 1 quart every 1200 miles. Oil consumption doesn't bother me if it's not excessive.
  7. Impressive Grumpy.
  8. I would think so. Great oil it seems but to pricey for me.
  9. Doublebase. Grumpy Bear uses Red Line High Performance oil. Low NOAK. This seems to be working well.
  10. This is like debating many things in life, a personal opinion is the key factor. I get there is better quality oil than the name brands. 6 quarts of Red Line Professional Series delivered to my door is $73. Not available locally. If I were to do 6 k mile intervals and go with Red Line oil and a different filter that cost, lets say $10 that would be $83 per oil change. As I said, at $21 dollars per change with a name brand oil and a spec oil filter at 3 k mile intervals. This has worked for me since I began driving. Never had an engine failure of any type and I buy used vehicles. I don't mind doing more oil/filter changes, it's not hard to do. I sleep just as well as an $83 oil service.
  11. My thinking is 3 k mile intervals means my motor gets new/fresh oil, filter and is better than extended changes with expensive oil and filters. I can do a filter, oil change for $21 with a name brand full synthetic oil and a spec filter. I like having new oil and filters more frequently. Same page as starman8tdc. Just different products. I have used SuperTech products in the past without any issues.
  12. Any dealer is only as good as the techs employed there. Rookies, don't care, etc.
  13. Agree 100%. Only you don't have to be old to enjoy the savings. The other thing I will add is to buy used and save more money.
  14. OK to me. IMO stopping will be the issue. Take your time.
  15. I gave up. I have been telling the wife about jack rabbit starts, keeping a consistent speed and fast stops. Freeway driving she is on the gas pedal, off the gas pedal. MPG killer IMO. Waits until she's close to the stop sign before letting of the gas and then hits the brakes. She does the speed limit though. SMH
  16. The last paragraph tells me to keep doing 3 K mile oil and filter changes.
  17. The debate goes on. Like a lot of things in life it's your call. I will continue to do 3 K oil and filter changes because it makes works for me. I don't need oil analysis done, just change it. I would rather change oil than rebuild a motor. All I know is this has worked for me for years and I have had some high mileage vehicles that never had an engine failure. My pickups were used as a work truck with the bed always full of tools, hauled material and towed trailers.
  18. Only a motorcycle rider understands this. The window tint craze has gotten out of hand IMO.
  19. My ex neighbor was a die hard Ford guy. Bought new trucks every 3 years. According to him the local Ford dealer would get Eco Boosts with thrown rods. Usually cylinder #2.
  20. Some of that in the catch can is water. Are you saying you dump a half quart out of your catch can, check your oil level and it's a half quart low?
  21. Moroso http://www.shopmoroso.com/eb/catalog/navigationPath//1::Moroso Performance Products/60000::Air-Oil Separators/6003::GM/{34805}::Air-Oil Separator Kit, Large Body, Chevrolet Silverado with LS Engines 1999-15, Hummer H2 2003-09, GMC Sierra with LS Engines 1999-15.html?entryId=catalog.productgroup.1600006003&expand=true&menuId=main.menu
  22. No way a catch can will cause oil usage. Agree with Mike GMC, more engine wear.
  23. IMO Taking into account the money available to GM, if they wanted to fix this problem they would have done it by now. This is a problem that is rare so they go with the flow.
  24. I have this vacuum in the house. Works well for quick pick-ups. Great for stairs. May draw to many amps though for use in your truck. https://www.amazon.com/Eureka-EasyClean-Lightweight-Handheld-71B/dp/B0006HUYGM/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1521123914&sr=1-2-spons&keywords=hand+vacuum&psc=1
