Total change in system plans. I'm ditching the external DVD and module for the Alpine Restyle kit since I found out it comes with a t harness that connects directly to the clockspring so I can finally get my steering wheel controls without having to change the entire dash cluster etc. (just need to add the steering wheel with the controls and correct clockspring). The kit also comes with the idatalink Maestro so you keep most other factory functions such as OnStar, satellite radio etc. and there is an external hide away speaker included for the chimes so those won't be too loud from being amplified. Also gonna be installing one of these in forum membe Nasty's 2016 Regular cab.
You're welcome and one thing to note is if you go with a typical double din headunit you will need to cut the plastic support rails for the factory module inside the dash (the Alpine Restyle is the only one I am aware of that does not require any dash modification)
I asked a similar question but wasn't able to have it answered here so I researched elsewhere and found you just need to replace the steering wheel along with the clock spring to control an aftermarket headunit using the steering wheel control adapter as the signal is picked up at the clockspring unlike with the factory radio. If you get the idatalink Maestro as well you will also be able to maintain "most" of the other functions in the factory radio as long as the headunit you choose supports idatalink however I haven't had a chance to install mine yet so i don't know what those functions are.
Man GM does some weird stuff with these trucks. I just checked and in the 300's I get...
300,301,302,303,304,310,311,313,314,316,330,341,350,370 and then it skips to 415
Interesting. I found all kinds of new stations after my trial ended and I started paying but I don't recall ever having a radio update (maybe the dealer did it while in for service or for one of the several recalls and I wasn't aware ?)
My 2016 goes up to 785 but not all numbers have a station assigned (biggest skip is from 470-785). Have you tried directly inputting the station number you want?
If you don't mind can you let me know how much you paid for those? (I have a set with the harnesses from a brand new 2017 but I'm not sure what to ask for them). Thanks and PM would be fine if you don't care to mention here.
Not sure I'll remember to post here but you can follow my build log below for updates.

CD/DVD player will be installed in the lower compartment of the jump seat and just waiting on the interface module to get it fully operational (for now I'll just have audio via the auxiliary port)
It will work with non dvd headunits (I have the IOB 7" with no cd or dvd) however the drag is it requires an expensive interface module to play video and display the cd menu on the screen. Unfortunately after numerous messages I never received a reply from either of the vendors here that sell modules/do reprogramming but I was able to find it direct from the manufacturer in S. Korea (Navitech) and will only have audio via the auxiliary input until it arrives. BTW, the module is also set up for front/side cameras as well as has 2 audio/video inputs and can be set up for hdmi input (I'm having mine programmed to mirror my phone as well as allow me to install an Amazon Firestick or similar device which requires in truck Wifi or phone tethering).
Lucky you to live in such a beautiful place and if my California native wife would agree to leave I'd be right back there with ya saving a ton of dough on registration fees and everything else!
Today I'm running wires for my new audio system and installing the CD/DVD player in the lower compartment of the jump seat .
Crap I just realized you said "If it worked properly and the auto was on yes" in answer to my question of how this feature works as opposed to saying it worked in your truck which is what I originally thought I read.
The Firefox I downloaded on my iPhone does not support add ons at this time so I still can't see any blocked pics from Photobucket however I found I can see all pics on any forum on my devices that have Firefox and the fix installed. Interesting thing is one of the other forums I am on was somehow able to override the block as I can still see my Photobucket pics as well as others there even on my iPhone or Explorer.
I have never had a vehicle with this feature so I'm not sure how it works. Does it automatically turn on the air or heat as needed to keep the truck at a set temperature?
