  1. I'm trying to swap 4.3 2003 into 1998 4l60e its done on ls swaps all the time I think I need bellhousing flex plate torque converter adapter anyone chime in no negative Nancy's please
  2. Not sure if this is the place for this or not. But I will be documenting the ls swap journey of my dream truck. I found me a fairly clean rust free 1992 gmc 1500 2wd. Sourced a junkyard 5.3, and a 4l80e trans. I am using a bp automotive harness, hp tuners and a lot of luck. This is my first ls swap so critics please tell me what I am doing wrong.
  3. Hello all! It was suggested I start a build thread so here I am starting one! My truck is a 2016 Silverado Regular Cab with the 5.3L v8 and 6 speed automatic. It has the IOB 7" infotainment center with Apple Play/Android Auto, trailer hitch incorporated into the rear bumper, cruise control, 40/20/40 seats etc and although I originally thought it had 3:42 gears based on the standard items listed on the sticker I somehow missed that my option column shows that it actually has the 3:08 gears. The LT interior was a little too busy looking for me and had a bunch of stuff I didn't really need and about the only option the LS didn't have that I wished for is the steering wheel audio/phone controls but I think I can get by without those especially after finding out from the dealer the cost as well as what it would take to install. I had modifications in mind before even getting the truck such as lowering, tire/wheel upgrade, increasing performance/handling, upgrading to a competition level audio system (my hobby and side business) and of course plans to personalize it to my tastes. Here's what I have done so far and the more I read this forum the more I add to my list so future plans are below! Day 1 Before installing 2" drop shackles and removing spacer block (shows the chrome door handles I installed but did not like so they got changed quickly) After shackles installed/spacer block removed and color matched handles as well as mirror caps installed The gold Bowtie looked out of place to me so I color matched the front one using the rattle can custom mix kit you can get on eBay or Amazon along with Duplicolor primer/adhesion promoter I didn't like the look of the rear Bowtie at all even after color matching so I removed it and I also added the LS emblem to balance out the rear somewhat since now only the LT and LTZ trucks get those emblems for some reason. (I also plan to color match the tailgate handle) More coming in a few minutes!
  4. Okay so I’m engine swapping my 4.3 v6 2003 Silverado to a 5.3 V8. I have purchased the engine and transmission and I’ve been putting it together in my free time. Recently I purchased what I thought was a stock Ls engine harness. Turns out I drove 1 hour and something minutes to find out he was selling me a “Stand Alone Harness.” Since I was there already I decided to buy it. Don’t ask me why just know it came at a impressive cheap price and it included a complete intake, fuel rails, k&n intake, fuse box & all that good stuff. Now my question is, what would change if i was to use the stand alone harness on my swap ? Would it even work ? I don’t have much knowledge on stand alone harnesses just that they are used in hot rods, c10s, obs, ect... Any help would be great!
  5. Hoping to find someone who has owned or lifted or both a stock Silverado LS. I have yet to find anyone with experience or seen this exact lift. I am narrowed down to either a 5" with 33's or 7" with 35's. With how low it sits, is 5" going to be enough or will it still be very low compared to stock trucks nowadays? I'll be using the stock 16" wheels. How much will it affect the acceleration?
  6. Hello, So this is my first post here, Don't hate on me if I posted in the wrong forum. I'd like to get a 2000 - 2006 Sierra, and I want to have a 5 speed manual tranny. and to my knowledge the 5 speed only came for the V6 and the smaller V8 (4.8). neither one is enough. And that's why I'd like to do an engine swap. I think I would buy a V6 so I can get it for less. I'd like to swap it to 6.0 or 6.3 if it fits. I looked around and googled this, most of what I found were people doing the swap them selfs. I however, would like a shop or a tuner to do the whole job for me from start to finish. So basically, once I buy a truck. I would send it to the tuner shop, and then they have a look at it, and tell me what can stay and what has to leave. What engine is best for this application. what tranny .. etc. Any suggestions? Any personal experiences? Thanks.
  7. Okay, I hope all's well here and I can find someone who can help! I need information I can't seem to find. I am in a financial bind and need to replace the motor of my 07 Tahoe. It has thrown a piston through the interior of the block. I was trying to find out if there is a straight plug and play swap from another truck I might use. I just don't have $1500 for a proper 07 Tahoe motor. I can pull a motor in my area for around $400. Problem is there are no 07 Tahoes there, but have found many 5.3l Silverados and a few Older Yukons & Suburbans. All I keep getting is that I have to get vin J motors for it to be a straight swap. The heads of my 07 are fine with the exception of one push rod that I'm in the process of changing! Help! Anyone have any suggestions?
  8. im new to the site, im nick i drive a 2002 silverado 4.8L 2wd step side mileage 240k dont tell me to sell or junk my truck the truck has been kept up with pretty well. In the mornings or after the tuck has been sitting a while i will get a pretty noticable ticking for about 30 seconds at startup until the engine warms up, i also get kind of a cough up of white smoke out the pipe at the same time, both of these symptoms go away after about 30 seconds. the truck will drive normal and strong until the first time i have to gas it into traffic or an incline/boat ramp, pretty much anytime i get into the gas pretty hard i get the loud ticking and smoke with a big sluggesh power loss at the same time. things to note- about once every 2 weeks i get a low oil light, i check the stick and its bone dry...heres where it gets funky, if i add only about a quart and a half the stick reads alost an entire half inch PAST full on the stick, so from bone dry to over full with a quart and a half????? No, there is no oil stains on my driveway no coolant in my oil or vice versa it is the oem factory dip stick i did a compression check, all the chambers on the drivers side are even at 140 in all cylinders, all chambers in passenger side are at 170 exept one was 180, im not worried about the pressure changes from that 10psi on the passenger side of the motor but what i do find strange is how one entire side is lower by about 30psi than the other head, warped head? head gasket? the plugs did look a little white corrosive and a few inparticular had a bit of carbon build up on them i took my valve covers off and inspected the lifters checked all the oil passages that i could see from there, no sludge or anything to note, brand new valve cover gaskets, no visible leaks from the exterior of the engine were could all this oil be going, it doesnt seem to be enough smoke in the orning or while im hitting the gas hard to be burning that much oil? could a cracked or bad valve seat be the culpret? im starting to get frustrated and how the heck can it go from empty to full with 1 1/2 quart??? ive tried this while hot and cooled down, always on level ground... im sure whatever is going on with the oil loss is the culprit for the ticking and smoke, I just cant seem to figure it out any help would be appreciated
  9. Bought this for one of my father in law's project cars but it looks like he may have found a different motor for it. Was said to have 8k miles on it, and looks almost new. Asking $4000 for the motor, trans, rear end, and computer/harness/pedal.
  10. Is it possible to get heated seats in the LS Silverado 1500 without having to remove the seats and buy seats out of a higher model?
  11. hey ya'll, my name is Lucas. Got my first Chevy Silverado 1500 LS with the 5.3L Vortec Ext Cab 3Dr 4WD ALL STOCK. Bought it off a police auction running and driving with 150k/miles for $1000 with a few minor issues and looking for help diagnosing an issue I've been chasing for about a week now. Look forward to makin new chevy friends and hopefully fixin my truck. I also recently started a youtube channel of me working on my truck. little things so far but hopefully will become a much higher quality channel with due time.
