  1. They’re replacing the entire engine, so I’m not too concerned.
  2. Engine tick was diagnosed as potential wrist pin or retaining clip failure. Severe scoring found on wall of cylinder number two. Engine is being replaced and should be up and running by the middle of next week. Engine is on the way. The rattle was diagnosed as torque converter engagement at low vehicle speed, lock-up with DFM engaged. About 5th gear. They have another 2024, 5.3/10-speed (4,000 miles) that rattles in the same fashion. They’re thinking a software update to disable DFM at low speeds would be a likely fix (does not do it when all 8 cylinders are engaged). Further info will be provided when engine is replaced; a GM engineer is going to pay the dealer a visit for my truck to see if adjustments to the programming is necessary.
  3. What was ultimately concerning was that it started randomly one day, and it accompanied an already present rattle. These unusual noises, if normal, should be disclosed to buyers when they purchase these vehicles. I wouldn’t be so worried if it was considered normal….but these didn’t start up until after it was driven for a few miles.
  4. Thank y’all for your responses. Mine does make like a “crackling groan” from startup that only lasts a second that my 4.3/6L80 made from the day I got it. I attribute it to transmission pump because, during startup, it sounds like it comes from just behind bellhousing area. I actually crawled under my last truck and listened. As far as the tick goes, it’s so erratic and off time with the engine, it could be anything. It’s weird….but I heard the rattle just like yall did and I was concerned something would come apart. The tick didn’t exist until the day I took it to the shop, either.
  5. @23LTW Dealer said they pinpointed the noise, and contacted GM technical about it. If it was just this, unaccompanied by an unsettling “rattle” at low, constant speed, very very light throttle input, I’d have no concern….but the dealer replicated both problems and it didn’t start the ticking until 2 weeks after I bought it. I’ll let you guys know what the dealer says. @newdude said he was pretty sure it was lifter. There is another post on this site, a bit older, where the guy had the same tick and didn’t ever tell us what’s going on. I believe his username was @2002rst. Newdude also posted the same service bulletin, and as a GM tech, he may have seen a few things. I took it in solely to make sure these issues weren’t in correlation with a pending catastrophic failure. Fingers crossed, but I’m just hoping GM comes back with “oh, it’s a simple fix,” and I get my truck back next week. What really worries me is the valve body issues in the 10-speed. Is this rattle a symptom of that, or something more serious? Is it a stupid simple thing? I don’t know, but I sure as hell want to find out.
  6. I feel the same. They won’t give me a loaner either. “We don’t have any until maybe Monday” Was the only response I got.
  7. This. I can’t tell you how many times I feel the “shudder” and hear the exhaust and they match with this perfectly. 2024 5.3 wt.
  8. I have a 2024 wt and I don’t have the vibration. It’s 4x4, 5.3, 10-speed. it does have other issues though.
  9. Hey guys, what’s the chance it’s improperly balanced driveshafts, like a previous poster said. Maybe the driveshafts themselves are the problem, and OEM isn’t the right answer?
  10. No. Fortunately. I have the pre-refresh dash in mine. It’s the same as the ‘19-‘21’s…because it’s a work truck trim level. I do, however, have an odd, low engine speed vibration or shudder with DFM active. I attribute it to being normal for firing on less than all cylinders. Been a mechanic for 16 years. I’ve seen a few things.
  11. It’s aggravating. I read on another post that the rattle could be exhaust valve related, with age…but my truck has less than 700 miles on it. I guess that, if the case is exhaust valve, I got a bad one. That still doesn’t explain the tick in the video at idle, CLEARLY coming from the engine. I've had 3 T1 trucks, and only one was not problematic. It was a 2021 LT Trail Boss, 6.2/10 speed. It had 12,000 miles on it. I had to trade up because my job status was questionable and I had a baby on the way. Now I regret doing that.
  12. @pittsteel my 2024 5.3/MHT 10 speed has a rattle in the same situation you described….theyre saying its transmission related, but happens under the same conditions your rattle did. I’ll let the tech know to check exhaust flapper, but my truck doesn’t even have 700 miles on it.
  13. My 2020 4.3/6l80 made the whine, and persisted after the pulley/belt fix….it was torque converter. Hope not for you!
  14. My 4.3 did it too. @newdude is right. Nothing to be concerned about.
  15. This post makes me furious. 2024 1500 wt, 5.3, MHT 10 speed. I took it to the dealer 3 days ago for a random tick and a bad rattle noise under certain conditions. Just bought this truck 2 weeks ago, has just under 600 miles on it. Got a call today, was told tick is engine related, rattle was transmission related. I was told this particular engine/transmission combo was more reliable than the others, currently, but now I’m beginning to doubt everything I’ve been seeing/hearing. If the truck is still in the shop next Friday, I’ll be contacting a lemon law attorney; they already sold the truck I traded in, it was riddled with transmission problems. That was a 2020 4.3/6L80. GM is horrible. Dealer opened a case on my truck because of the potential catastrophic failures these noises could be. GM is going to lose all its customers with this absolute worthless excuse for quality. Ford’s coyote doesn’t have these issues….I wonder why? Stellantis has these issues…..BECAUSE THEY USE THE SAME PARTS. GM tried this poor excuse of fuel saving technology in the 80’s and every car was deemed a total failure. Did the idiot big wigs learn nothing? I bought a truck to work, NOT FOR FUEL ECONOMY, and ESPECIALLY not to sit in the shop and constantly need attention. While I waste money on it. This is absolutely ridiculous.
  16. I saw something in a secondhand repair channel about head gasket issues early on (coolant smell, no obvious leak) on the early baby Duramax engine. Might be worth checking out. The radiators seem to be a common issue, too. I’ve never personally owned one, but just thought I’d spread the word in case you guys were still looking for answers.
  17. They’re replicated my concerns. Tick is engine related, rattle is transmission related.
  18. ***Dealer started a case. Tick is engine related, the rattle is transmission. They’re going to start teardown tomorrow.***

  20. Have you been running 5w-30 in it since you bought it?
  21. Mine does EXACTLY this. It’s the exact same in frequency and everything. Did you ever find out? here’s the link.
  22. @newdude commented on a post I made that sounds similar to what you’re going through. Go check it out.
  23. A gentleman and a scholar. Thank you. I submitted this to the service advisor and he said he appreciated the heads up and will most certainly have his tech looped in.
