  1. Maybe I need to address mine then. I've thought it was the high pressure fuel pump/direct injection that was making that ticking noise for the last 5 years I have had the truck.
  2. The use of brakes generates a lot of heat. That heat will radiate away from the pads, calipers and into the hubs and wheels.
  3. Personally, I would be checking all the grounds as my start to troubleshooting these types of problems before letting them charge you for a BCM.
  4. Here is how I do my trans fluid. I dropped the pan and changed the filter the first time at 65k. The fluid that came out looked like hot chocolate. Ever since then I have been changing 1 gallon of fluid through the dipstick tube using a hand operated vacuum pump every 15k miles. The fluid looks great now and like mentioned above only takes a few minutes to do. I've attached a few pics so you can get an idea. The first tubing that I stick down in the trans dipstick tube is bought from Home Depot, I think it's PTFE tubing. Same as the tubing for your refrigerator but bigger diameter to match the rubber tubing of the hand operated vacuum pump.
  5. Finished the install of the DL3 mirrors this morning. Thanks for doing the leg work pgamboa!! Now, when I was connecting the mirrors up I noticed one of the wires that I added was for dimming. My rear view mirror is not self dimming. How difficult is that to add?
  6. Completed the install of DL3 mirrors this morning. I like it. I notice both mirrors look like they might be dimming mirrors if I had a dimming rear view mirror connected to them. That could be my next project.
  7. My truck was in the garage when I checked the puddle lights earlier. So we know it works in the not so bright lights of the garage. I would assume it comes on with the dome light since that is the circuit applying power through the diode.
  8. Okay, the diode mod is done. Now I have a bright puddle light like you I expected. Frank, I unplugged the grey connector pictured above. Seems like I was able to push the side without the stripe in until I felt it bottom in the plug. On the end with the stripe I could not get it to go in as far but the lights work as they should when I plugged the grey connector back in. About 5 minutes worth of work thanks to PGamboa's efforts.
  9. Everything about the mirror function as it should with the exception of the puddle lamp. Mine is a 2014 of course but, so are the mirrors I found out today when I swapped mirror covers. Edit: I just read about the diode location and headed back out to see if I have on on hand.
  10. I got a little over 50% of the way finished with my DL3 upgrade from DL8 today before the sun made it up over head and I lost my shade. I finished the drivers side completely. I have turn a signal and a puddle light that doesn't seem very bright at all and the mirror will move. Not sure you could see a puddle with the amount of light coming from the puddle light however. I also noticed the lens is not flat but has a wave to it so I compared it to the passengers side mirror that has yet to go on. They are the same. Is there an upgrade for the puddle lamp to make it brighter? It shouldn't take me very long Friday morning to finish up the passengers side. Woo hoo!!
  11. I've had HP Tuners since about 2006-07 time frame. I tuned my 1970 ls swapped Corvette. I got the driving down the road pretty good and the car runs great. Never could get the cold start squared up like it should be. Heck I don't even have the software on my newest laptop. The interface and wideband sensor are in a storage bin in the garage. I had wondered if anyone was using HP on these trucks.
  12. No biggie. I see GM sells the rears in pairs but the fronts are sold singularly as far as I can tell.
  13. I thought the same thing, cut that stand pipe off. Just be sure there are still some threads left in the bung.
  14. Are these fronts or rears? Could you post part numbers if it is fronts. My fronts have some damage and I would like to replace them.
  15. I still haven't done this upgrade.
  16. Yes you can do this. I have a couple of these hand pumps. This one came from Wally World. Pull the fluid out of the pan with the pump into a container. Then you can crawl under the truck and drop the pan without so much fluid in the pan. It'll probably still have some fluid but not enough to give you a bath.
  17. Houston heat probably didn't help, but I am going to say that the batteries are engineered to last just long enough to get out of the warranty window. My dad bought a brand new 88 F150. The battery in that truck lasted until after he passed away in 98. My son and I finally replaced the battery some years later. I dare say that battery lasted 12 years. You'll be hard pressed to get 5 years out of any battery now. I am on my 2nd battery in my 2014.
  18. We finished our little running around. Made a 950 mile round trip and I don't recall the temp ever getting up to 190* even in wreck traffic. The majority of the time it was around 150-165ish range when running down the road. The truck still managed 22.6 MPG over this trip. No issues that I can tell. My lifetime average on the DIC shows 23.6MPG. So it is maybe down some on MPG. But at one point in the trip it was up to 23.0 on the DIC before we got stuck for a couple of wrecks on the interstate.
  19. Spring in the bottom, pill flipped, then spring and cap, lastly snap ring.
  20. Years ago I had an S10, I would remove the brakes lights and reach up inside the fender wells a far as I could and wipe it down. Give it a really good rinse to get rid of what grime I could. That truck had no rust in the fenders. I want to do the same to my truck, I just have not done it yet.
  21. Thanks for the detailed write up. Hopefully I never need it but I can search it up if needed.
  22. I drove my truck about 500 miles, round trip, yesterday on the interstate. Got stuck in wreck traffic. The temp got up to 168*F. When we got moving the temp dropped back down to around 158*. Never did the temperature get above 168* the entire time. I saw 96* on the outside temperature. My truck managed to show 23.1MPG on the DIC. Take from that information, what you want, but I would say for myself, I am satisfied.
  23. I'd be interested to know if it worked for you when get around to doing it.
  24. So this is after my 43 mile ride to work this morning.
  25. Sounds like we are on a similar path. I pull a gallon (vacuum) out the dipstick.
