My 06 Av is making noise and it seems to be coming from the rear diff. We dropped the drive shaft and you could manually rotate and hear a scraping sound as well as a good bit of play back and forth. We are going to drop the inspection plate next, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or had experienced this before.

Found it, the bearings in the differential were bad.... woo hoo.... better than a complete rebuild!! :)
