2005 Suv Mp3 Upgrade Cd

I recently stumbled across ebay listings for a MP3 Software Upgrade CD to the factory stereo. I own a 2005 Trailblazer EXT and this intrigued me as I was also considering some form of IPOD integration but this seems like a reasonable alternative. At ~$20.00 shipped it seems to good to be true....

 

Has anyone applied this type of upgrade to their 2005 GM SUV/Truck with success?

 

Is it really to good to be true?

You're trying to add MP3 playback to your headunit right? Nowhere on that page does it mention that it adds MP3 playback to other headunits that didn't already have it. I'm thinking that this is just a firmware update (bugfixes) for the Trailblazer/Colorado radios.

 

However, I do think that it is possible that the only difference between the MP3 and non-MP3 units is the software, so it could be possible to enable MP3 playback by uploading the firmware of a MP3-supporting Trailblazer/Colorado radio to a non-MP3 Silverado/Sierra radio.

 

You could try the upgrade, but I doubt it would work. It's very possible that it could even brick your headunit.
