P0449 Diagnostic Code (vent Valve)

Hello,

This post will be regarding a 2006 Silverado 5.3L crew cab 4x2.

 

I recently got the check engine light on my dash. I checked it with my tuner and the code p0449 came up. After looking this code up in my repair book, i saw that it had to do with an electrical problem with the EVAP Vent Valve Solenoid.

 

I took a look under the truck, right in front of the gas tank and found a cylindrical black piece that seemed to be it. I disconnected the wiring and cleaned it a little but this did nothing for the engine light.

 

What could be the problem? I haven't noticed any drop in gas mileage or anything and I've been driving it for a week now so I'm curious as to what it's doing.

 

Any suggestions?
