Best Place To Mount Kenwood Gps Antenna?

Curious where the best place is to mount it? Is it waterproof or should it be done under the roof skin between the skin and headliner? It's Magnetic. I was thinking of using the adhesive stuff you use for remounting the rearview mirror and mounting it on the windsheild just about the mirror. Might work ok there~Cole~

Man i'm gettin' LOTS of help here. I might just hit up the guys on LS1tech instead. I tried search and all i found was the stock GPS installs which mounts the stock antenna under the dash panel. I want to know aftermarket

What kind of system are you using?

I have a Nuvi with an external antenna that I stuck to the outside of the cab near the rear passenger side.

But I don't see why you couldn't install the antenna in the stock location.

it's a Kenwood DNX-5120 with external antenna;)

I have a Pioneer AVIC-N1 and I have mounted The GPS Antenna on the outside on the Driver's side.

i was guessing that would be the best spot. But i just wanted to know for sure as i didn't know if they were waterproof

I also installed a dnx-5120. The antenna is waterproof as far as know. I installed mine under the windshield wiper cowl. works perfect!! Was a little work getting the wire under the hood but once it was there it was easy.

I put my in the location the factory one goes in the dash cover just before the windshield. Kenwwod gives you a plate to put under the antennae that fits in the space perfectly. Never have an issue with reception.

Thanks guys i appreciate the help;) i bought my GPS off a guy from ebay that didn't have a box or owners manual and if the kit comes with that bracket i must not have gotten that either. I have all the harnesses and antenna and some surround peices but that's it. I only paid $400 for it so not a HUGE deal as i've already printed out the manual on my own. It's brand new but i never saw that in there as far as i know. I will try and see what i can find out. So basically under the dash should be fine?

In My Sierra, I just shoved it under the dash behind the head unit. Worked perfectly there. Did the same thing in my old '03 Yukon. Worked on that one too.

I put mine outside above the 3rd brake-on roof. Just ran the wire up the drivers window post -> headliner -> out the 3rd brake light, no problems since install.

ok i will try and keep it under the dash somewhere. I also thought about under the cowl peice which would be awesome. We'll see where i decide to but inside would be the best then i don't have to worry about it having issues with rain or ice since i'm in a colder climate
