gman6974 Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I plan on applying some POR-15 on the chassis of my '98 K. Does anyone have a good estimation of how much I would need? They come in Pint, Quart and Gallon size jugs. I don't think a quart is going to be enough. I was thinking a gallon. Damn sure is expensive too.
ursandal Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I painted a Jeep Wrangler frame with por15, took about a quart. I'd say you could get away with 2 qts but I'd probably buy 3 just to be safe. It's a very thin "paint" and is easy to work with. Drys hard a rock! It's good stuff, just make sure you follow the instructions.

Yes, directly from them. I also used their "chassie coat" paint to cover areas of the frame that still had the original frame paint. My understanding was that the por15 needs rust to properly cure/stick so using it over a painted surface wasn't recommended. In the end I used por15 for rusted areas, which was probably 90% of the frame, and then flooded the whole frame with the chassie coat. Worked out great for me and the Jeep saw two winters in upstate NY with no failure of the paint.

Should I knock and loose rust off first?? Or a good power wash?? And did you use a roller, or brush? http://www.por15.com/POR-15/productinfo/1GB/

I started with a good wash then I used a wire brush and a paint scraper to get the scaling rust off. I also used the por15 "metal ready" to clean it all up and help with adhesion. I used the cheap disposable foam brushes, worked fine. Al
