"pebble Rattle" In New Cats

Hey everyone so tonight i have ordered in the new y pipe with the two new cats on it for my 2000 silverado because my old one was rattling at low rpm's or when you taped on the pipe with your fist when the truck was off. So tonight i replaced the whole unit with the new one and i checked the new one for rattles and nothing but one i put it on the truck the driver side cat and cross bar was making the same noise. Does anyone know the fix to this or what it could be. It is not the heat shields because i had already checked those plus the part is brand new ...Thanks in advance

Great puzzler but, I figured that one out on my own truck. I'm 99% sure it's the oxygen sensor. On mine, there's a little metal collar that for some reason is loose and at certain rpms it rattles/buzzes. If you go under your truck again, look at the oxygen sensor and you'll see that metal collar. Tape it still and tap the exhaust again. I took a large pliers and squished the collar to hold it in place. Now it's quiet.

Alright so i checked th oxygen sensors and took them out but still makes noise when you tap on it with your fist even with them out

When taking off from a stop I get a metallic rattle from the exhaust, this truck has done it for most of it's life and my 07 did it. I'll have to get under the truck and take a look.

When you do get under there and look ...if you find anything please let me know cause i have a feeling its the converters on all chevs do it because your not the only one that told me they had it aswell..Thanks

I would wager a guess that its your entire exhaust system that is rattling.

 

Best way to stop your exhaust from making that sound when you hit it is to STOP HITTING IT

 

seriously though...grab the tail pipe and shake it and see if you hear the same sound.
