while you have the engine out;

1/. decide on the cam and performance upgrades you want done.

2/. send your computer away to someone to get it tuned for that combination of parts

I would have a look at Colt cams in Langley British Columbia... I use them every time I do an engine rebuild for someone...when they want a little more stank from the engine. I have built several 2.9L ford engines with these cams and its a night and day difference...not too many rangers on the road that can chirp tires changing into 4th.

They sell a nice close to stock idle RV cam for Chevy trucks. It moves your power band down a bit and gives you a nice flat torque curve all the way to 5K rpm's

BTW welcome to GMT.com

Bawahhahahahaahahaha.....Carbs suck.

if your going to do anything go forward...OBD II systems have so much more tuneability its doesn't even compare to anything else.

Carbs...you can tweak air fuel and you can advance your distributor a few degrees....thats about all you can do...or you can go get a bigger carb....

with Computer systems...especially OBD II you can change fuel/air ratios across the rev range, injector duty cycles, timing across the rev range...and a whole host of other stuff.

yeah an RV cam shouldn't play funky games with your computer even if you leave it stock. You have an OBDI system anyway, the worst it can do is throw a CEL..it will still work fine.

As for the Ford thing....no ones perfect.

haha you can think what you want about fords family has had them for years i like both as long as its not dodge i dont care, atleast all my fords have had the 300 inline six you cant talk about about that motor as far as durability.

anyways yeah im not too up on all that stuff if i changed it i would go carbed i dont know anything about computers in these things its just easier for me to do that im not looking for a go fast or way to get better mileage its my beater mud truck needs a whole new body but ohh well thats for another time.

any suggestions on a rv cam?

If you call into Summit magazines techinical support. The will tell you what cam/lifters kit to buy out of the magazine to get more power and not have to mess with the computer. LMCtruck.com Might even have that same kit already put together.

Those guys are awesome to deal with, and they're cams are really cheep compared to the big names out there. I have used these guys a lot for several engine builds.
