Anyone know what this was all about..

(08/26/2003 079672 # A0880 - ROOF - COLOR/CLEAR COAT 3106 miles) ?

This showed up on a VIN check for my truck under a claim history report and was wondering what went wrong with roof color/clear coat. I was thinking the truck had a defect in clear coat application when it was being built int he factory?

When I went to pick up my new Sierra that I special ordered, a guy at the dealership scratched the cab roof when he drove it out of a low ceiling parking garage. The dealer had to fix it. If I did a vin check on my truck, it would probably indicate the same as your vin check. The damage was just in the clearcoat. It's probably common for a dealership to pass the expense as a warranty repair when it was their fault.

I had an F150 in a dealership for some powertrain warranty work about 15 years ago. I saw the tech clamp the driveshaft in a vise to replace the u-joints. After the work was completed, the driveshaft had some dents. After some discussion, the dealer replaced the driveshaft. The paperwork indicated that it was a warranty issue.
