ive owned 4 different chevy half tons now i got a 1500hd, they ALL grinded in 4x4 at full steer...made a little noise but this truck this year seems too be pretty loud  , even at just a slight turn...CV boots arent ripped..sounds like its comin from the diff...i just dont know how loud is acceptable..you guys got loud front ends in 4x4?? again everything seems okay, nice and tight...actually really tight...front end hoppin around on the ice when goin slow..it doesnt clank when you start off a light..just got about almost 5 inches of snow here today already first time i threw it into 4x4 in the cold this fall...just wonderin...???

I assume this is at low speed like in parking lots? The GM 4x4's I've driven do the hop but don't make much or any sound at low speed. What kind of sound are we talking about? A steady squeal or a repetitive clunk? Fluid level up in the diff?

ya, like goin around corners slowly....ya all my prevous trucks made a little noise at full steer but this is a winding noise. sounds like a straight cut gear would sound. like the ring and pinion arent meshing properly. if i took it out and in of 4x4 a few times while driving it would get better or worse. im thinkin maybe not shimmed proper. improper bearing preload. i just bought this truck 8 months ago so who knows. only got 45k miles on it. havent had a chance too check fluid level. will do in a couple days. its parked. i didnt like that noise :loser:

Oh, I see. Yeah, the last couple trucks I had would make a little whine at full steer. I usually just avoid going full steer to avoid that. I'm not sure exactly what yours could be.
