2003 Yukon Xl Denali Rear Shocks

Hello all. Long time reader, short time poster.

 

I have a 2003 Yukon XL Denali (90k) and the rear shocks are leaking (according to the tire place). They called around for the shocks and I'm looking at around $1300 out the door (labor's only like $40). I'm looking for cheaper solutions, obviously. I think the shocks we have are called "Autoride". They raise the back of the truck up if it senses there's extra weight, and has been trying to raise it periodically while we drive with the back empty, so I knew something was up.

 

So, do we ~need~ to go with the manufacturer's Autoride or can we use some "normal" shocks? If so, what are some good ones to get? Price is figured into things, but I don't want bottom-basement shocks. We will probably never again tow a trailer and we do go on the occasional trip where we load the back with luggage.

monroe offers a shock for it. Price direct from an auto parts store (shops make money on parts as well as labor) $400-$450 or so per shock.

 

The monroe part number is: 40034

 

I encourage you to look at them online before you order them. According to my cataloging they are for the auto-leveling system
