Jpshostr Posted January 27, 2002 Posted January 27, 2002 You Might Be From A Small Town If... You can name everyone you graduated with. You know what 4-H is. You ever went to parties at a pasture, barn, or in the middle of a dirt road. Your idea of a FUN weekend was riding around parking lots because that was where EVERYBODY went. Your idea of an EXCITING weekend was watching a fight in the parking lot. You swore at someone and your parents knew within the hour. You ever went cow-tipping or snipe hunting. School gets canceled for city, county, or state events. You were ever in the Homecoming parade. You have ever gone home for Homecoming. Everyone thought it was really cool to date someone from the neighboring town. You had senior skip day. The whole school went to the same party after graduation. You don't give directions by street names, but instead like this: Turn right by Nelson's house, go two blocks east past Anderson's, and it's four houses left of the track field. The country club golf course had only 9 holes. (Or there wasn't even one.) You can't help but date a friend ex-boyfriend/girlfriend. You refer to anyone with a house newer than 1980 as the "rich people". The people in the city dress funny, then your town picks up on the trend a few years later. You bragged to your friends because you got pipes on your truck for your birthday. Anyone you want can be found at either the Dairy Queen or the feed store. You see at least one friend a week driving a tractor through town. The football coach suggested that you haul hay for the summer to get stronger. Directions are given using "the" stop light as a reference. The city council meets at the coffee shop. Your "letter jacket" was worn after your 19th birthday. You decide to walk somewhere for exercise and 5 people pull over and ask if you need a ride. Your teachers call you by your older siblings' names. Your teachers remember when they taught your parents. The closest Taco Bell or Burger King is at least 30 miles away. So is the closest shopping mall. It is normal to see an old man riding through town on a riding lawn mower. You laugh your butt off reading this because you know they're all true.
Elwood Posted February 5, 2002 Posted February 5, 2002 Yup. About half are true and the other were true until about 5-10 years ago.
96 Vortec Posted February 6, 2002 Posted February 6, 2002 And most of those are the reason I moved away as quickly as I could. It is funny when I go back to visit my parents, cause all of my friends are stuck now and are jealous that they didn't leave when they had the chance.

Boy, different strokes for different people I'll say. Its for those reasons I want out of this awful city and back to small town as quick as I can.
Instrument 37 Posted February 7, 2002 Posted February 7, 2002 Good Stuf!! I moved from my hometown, Clinton La, to Baltimore MD. Couldn't wait to get out of that town. Well.....Guess where I am back to? and I love it. A side note to getting "glass packs" on our trucks. I remember somone saying that if you take steel fishing line, notch the end of you exhast pipe, make like a crosshair design, that would create "sound waves" so that when you "rapped your pipes" at night down main street it could actually break the glass in the strore fronts. Well.....we all had "cross hair exhaust pipes!! Small towns are a good thing! But the Walmarts are killin them.
Torque Junkie Posted February 8, 2002 Posted February 8, 2002 Good stuff! I can relate to all of it Here's one that wasn't on the list but holds true for me here: "When someone asks for your phone number, you give them only the last 4 digits, because the entire town and surrounding 10 miles, have the same prefix"
bscottb Posted February 10, 2002 Posted February 10, 2002 Most of those are so true. I guess every small town is pretty much the same, no matter where it is. I agree with JP, even though I have lived all over the country, Inman SC is home because I like the "Mayberry" atmosphere. There is something comforting about knowing everyone and everyone knowing you. Like the Cheers theme "Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name" Right JP?
NewbieZ71 Posted February 10, 2002 Posted February 10, 2002 The only downside...."Someplace where everybody knows your name....AND your business!!!"
c4boom Posted February 10, 2002 Posted February 10, 2002 every one of them for me my class was only 36 people
