Tahoe Parking Brakes

Hi Guys,

I have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe 5.3L.

If I change the rear brakes, will it auto adjust my parking brakes? Currently, the parking brakes barely even lock the vehicle. Parking on an incline, the parking gear is the only thing locking the suv.

I know that on most vehicles, changing the rear brakes also addresses the parking brake issue. Is it the same with the Tahoe or is there another adjustment that needs to be made for the parking brakes?

Thanks.

Your parking brake uses a dedicated brake shoe that engages the inside of your rear rotors. Changing your brake pads and/or rotors will not correct parking brake issues. If your pbrake shoe linings are still ok, you likely need to adjust the lining so it engages with your rotor. There is a star wheel adjustment screw to increase or decrease the shoe diameter and you must remove the rear rotor to make the adjustment.
