Clunking Noise

I have a 2002 Silverado 1500 with 90,000 miles that has recently developed what can be best described as a "clunking" noise when it is put into gear then accelerated. The u-joints were replaced at 72,000 at and the rear housing serviced at the same time. These items may have nothing to do with this noise, but it is troubling none the less.

Its a common problem! You can do a search and find a lot on it..

It's your rear drive shaft yoke where it goes into the transmission. It either needs to be greased with a heavy grease, like wheel bearing grease or marine grease and put back in. That should stop the clunk for a good while. They also make a revised yoke for it. I tried greasing mine myself and it went away for a while but is slowly coming back. May try the yoke next time.
