Headlight Sensor Fell In Dash

Recommended Posts

I was cleaning my dash the other day and when I went over the light sensor it fell inside the dash. I was wondering if there was anyway to get it back up without taking the whole dash off. If taking the whole thing off is the only option i could do it. Has anyone ever had this problem?

That happened to me on my 2003 1500. I took the whole dash apart and took the radio out, hoping I could reach up under there and put it back from the bottom side. Couldn't reach it because there are too many obstacles in the way. What I ended up doing is taking a needle nose pliers and grabbing it from the top and pulling it back up through the hole. It took me about an hour and it was very frustrating but I did get it. If you have the time I suppose the dash could be taken apart enough to get at it from underneath, but I didn't have the time. Hope you can get it fixed!

That happened to me too. It sucks! It took me about an hour and a half to get it back out. I used a wire hanger but it was a hassle. I hope you can get it back out.

Ended up getting it back up today. I took the radio and the heater control out and I could barely fit my hand in and got it, it was a tight fit and kinder hurt but I got it Haha.

Thanks for the help.

It's really not that difficult to get the dash cover off; I only wish I had the service instruction like those in the like above (post #3)

Once you get the screws out (on the sides, around the instrument bezel and in the vents) the whole cover slides back out of some retaining hooks at the base on the windshield. There are catches on the hooks so it takes a little tug to get them free.

If I had to do it again, the whole job could be done in 30 minutes or so.
