Why Does It Hold 3rd?

why do newer gm trannys stay out of 4th until the tranny is warm? i know so it dosen't hurt itself but whats the big deal with overdrive?

Overdrive = less RPMs which = more time to warm up the engine. Cold fluid = thick fluid = harder on parts. That's all I can figure..

The transmission goes into OD but the TCC stays unlocked intil around 147F for emissions, the converters need to light off ASAP. Your truck with 3:42 gears will take longer.
