To remove the white bearing, first remove the intermediate shaft, Then just pull the white bearing out. You will have to push the new bearing in place. There is a small notch cut in the steering tube. The raised piece on the bushing goes in the notch. This keeps it in line. Now the white bushing will not fit that tight, but the new bushing will.

I used a small block of wood to push the new bushing in place. You will have to push hard...but be careful and not break the new bushing. It is not that strong. I just pushed a little at a time, evenly all the way around, till it was seated. It is a bearing for the intermediate shaft. It will also be a tight fit when you put the shaft back through it. I greased the intermediate shaft so it would push through the bearing easier. Oh yeah...don't turn the steering wheel, or you may be installing a SIR coil (clock spring).

Good luck...

I have had my intermediate shaft out twice. One time for greasing and one time for putting the new one and the bearing in. I did not do anything to the steering wheel and it did not turn. It won't turn by its self. I believe you have to go out of your way to turn it. Now you can turn it some with no issues. You just can't turn it a lot.

Most people just tie it off with seat belt or bungee cords.
