What should the oil pressure gauge be reading? Mine seems to stay around 40 no matter how high the rpm and at redlights ( idle ) drop down to around what I would guess is 20

First the oem electric gauge can't be relied on. Not known for accuracy.

Per my 99' Silverado FSM (LQ4, I know a slightly diff. animal).

Minm. psi - hot running 5w-30

6 @ 1000 rpm

18 @ 2000

26 @ 4000

seems your ok, how many miles?

New engine + new oil = higher psi.

It is a 2007 Sierra Denali with 49k on it. Just did a mobil one oil change a couple days ago. Just talked to a friend with same motor and he says his is about the same. I guess I am safe. Thank you
