Gas Gauge Broken

I just went through the whole Evap solenoid (p0449) issue and its got me curious about some other issues. Namely my gas gauge is not working, it no longer moves. What I hear is that you have to get into the gas tank, and the part costs a couple hundred bucks. Is this a common problem? Is there a quick/easy fix?

Could just be the stepper motor in the cluster not working.

You can obtain a pin out for the cluster connector and find where the signal comes in for the fuel reading and see if it reads in spec.

The part in the tank that has to be replaced is the fuel pump assembly...if that's whats broken. You unbolt the box and slide it back...you will be stearing at the pump assembly on top of the tank. you remove the locking ring pop the old pump out and pop the new one in, lock it up and your in business.

The float going south is not at all common...its way more common for the cluster to go out.
