Door Handle Issue

This weekend I took on the task to replace my door handles for color matching ones. I followed the write up on gmfullsize which helped out. The problem came in at the end; I could not take the door handle off the rods to either the handle or the locking mechanism. I learned how to remove the door panel but not the handle. Got any advise as to how do I remove the handle from the rods?

 

I know this should be an easy project but it kicked my a$$.

I just twisted the handle upwards and moved it around to slide if off the rods. There is a white plastic bushing that has slots and I had the rod in one of the slots to give more room. Don't be afraid of breaking it, we have done 8 handles and never broke the plastic bushing.

 

The lock you can either pull the big metal clip that goes around the entire lock and holds it to the handle or you can pull the rod out of the red plastic clip.

That's why I don't try this stuff on my own. Simple enough but everything will go completely wrong for me and I won't be able to open my door or some crap...
